The Berlin Senate administration was the target of a cyberattack. The Senate Chancellery have announced that forensic investigations have revealed “evidence of compromise within the state network”.
The Senate department for urban development, Construction and housing, and the department for mobility, transport, environment and climate protection were affected. Both departments were disconnected from the state network on Friday to prevent further damage to the network. It remains unclear whether the attack itself occurred on Friday or was merely detected that day.
According to government sources, the data in question is “in some cases highly sensitive”. The Senate Chancellery has not yet commented on who might be behind the attack. “The investigation is ongoing and is being conducted by the Berlin State Criminal Police Office and the Berlin Public Prosecutor’s Office.”
According to the Senate Chancellery, the two affected departments are “operational.” However, the employees are offline and cannot access their normal work systems.
